My story is one of nonconformity, ambition, courage and perseverance. I was born in Kiev, Ukraine, the daughter of a photojournalist and a university professor, neither of which were members of the Communist Party. As a child growing up behind the Iron Curtain of the Soviet Union, the world seemed a much colder and unfriendlier place. The government indoctrinated us from an early age to blindly worship. Communist ideas and to love Lenin more than our mothers...

How do you like the United States?

As a little girl, I dreamed of coming to the U.S. and making it big in the country of freedom and opportunity. Since I came to the United States, I was able to fullfill many of my dreams. I love living here and several years ago I have become a proud American citizen. My naturalization ceremony was featured on the Entertainment Tonight!
